"Marantz hasn't lost its touch - the PM6006 is a fine budget amplifier..." 'What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision magazine'. 5-star review. Tested at £400.
Sound quality that's ahead of the field
Just like its predecessors, the Marantz PM6006 puts sound quality first. Usually the preserve of more expensive amplifiers, the PM6006 benefits from separate pre and power amp sections. Constructed from discrete components rather than the more usual integrated circuits, this gives the PM6006 an uncommon clarity and level of detail. Its toroidal power supply and large capacitors keep a tight control on speakers and gives music a generous sense of scale; far larger than you might expect from a 45W amplifier.
Now with extra digital inputs
Featuring a high quality Cirrus Logic 24 bit/192 kHz DAC built-in, the PM6006 makes a fantastic match for your digital sources. Now offering a choice of coaxial and twin optical inputs you can connect digital sources such as your CD, DVD, Blu-ray, TV or even your games console. Thanks to the Marantz's superior processing power, top quality sound quality is guaranteed. The digital part of the amplifier is fully shielded, ensuring no electrical interference with the other parts of the amplifier.
Connect up your turntable and headphones
As well as four line level inputs, for your CD player and other sources, the PM6006 also features an onboard MM phono stage. Connect up any turntable with an MM (Moving Magnet) cartridge and you won't have to worry about adding a separate phono pre-amp. A headphone socket is also supplied, making this the ideal amp for listening to music at any day of the day or night.
System remote supplied
The supplied remote commander gives full control of both volume and source inputs. It's also compatible with other Marantz sources, such as the CD6006 CD player and NA6005 streamer, making this the only remote you need for a full Marantz system.
Flexible and great-sounding, the Marantz PM6006 remains a consummate all-rounder.

Great value amplifier
Great amplifier with fairly easy set up except for the speaker cable. Why don't manufacturers design something that will clip on to quality thicker cable instead of expecting these to be squeezed into a small hole and than screwed down.
Also the remote does not adjust balance, treble and bass.
I have just replaced my old Arcam with this amp and was surprised that the balance does not fade each channel completely when you twist left or right and the change in the balance is fairly subtle.

Easy to set up. Sound is brilliant. Upgraded from my old pm4000 which I also loved. Great mid range and more power than the old amp. For the money I paid I am very happy and can tell the difference

Quality and value
I checked carefully both the features and reviews here as the price looked low. Both checked out and I am delighted with the product. For me to find it easily usable is saying something! So far I have a Pro-ject turntable going in and then through to Yam speakers and cannot fault the sound.
Next up is a CD player; I am tempted after this on the Marantz CD6006........watch this space.

I have been a Marantz fan for over 20 years and chooped in an aeging PM7200 for this amp, in conjunction with a CD6006. The pair are palying through bi wired KEF IQ10's, which I am very happy with.
However..........no matter what I do with tehbass/treble and loudness, this amp just isn't hitting the spot. Added to that, the controls feel cheap and plasticky.
In a nutshell - disappointing as I expected a lot more.

I review this in conjuction the Marantz CD6006, as I am using the two devices together, which I am playing through Tannoy Eclipse 3 floorstanding speakers (which I already owned and I am very pleased with.)
There is no doubt that, in some ways, the PM6006 and CD6006 represent a step up from the Denon DM40 which they are intended to replace. There is greater range and detail and some pieces of music sound fantastic. Synthesizers particularly so. There is something clinical and metallic about their combined sound which suits the synth. Other pieces of music, however, sound strident and lacking in warmth - and hard to listen to, despite attempting to make appropriate adjustments to the tone.
And so I am in the strange situation of playing some CDs through my Denon (which is a third of the price) which is easier on the ear.
I know I should have listened to this set up before I handed over my readies, and I urge you to do so, lest you end up in the same position.
