FabulousI bought the Dacmagic 100 to replace a Dacmagic 2 that is around 20 years old. Most importantly I wanted to feed high-definition audio files from my computer to my hifi. I can tell you that this discreet piece of kit does a wonderful job. It's breathed new life into my modest hifi setup and I'm back in hifi heaven. It delivers a very enjoyable and satisfying sound. If you're looking to add a DAC to your setup and you aren't rolling in money then I'd say don't hesitate to buy this. I'm sure there are better DACs out there but if you want one then you'll probably need to dish out considerably more of your hard-earned money to get diminishing returns. At this price point I'd say it's a no-brainer.

Recommended wholeheartedlyMy Cambridge DacMagic 100 arrives next day despite only choosing the free postage option. Linked to my Sony BDP S7200 Blu-ray player it provides a beautifully detailed sound. Though not quite achieving as spacious a sound as my Marantz SA8005 CD/SACD player (understandably given the combined price difference) it is nevertheless terrific value and can be recommended wholeheartedly.

Good, but needs careful matching.I took a little while to (A) decide on purchasing this product, and (B) to assess how to get the best out of it within my existing system. During this period I listened to a wide selection of CDs - classical and jazz; orchestral and smaller, more intimate ensembles. Although it took some time to reach and feel happy with my final assessment, I felt confident that this neatly boxed addition was certainly worth the asking price. I'm using it primarily as an outboard for my venerable Pioneer CD transport, which has been given a new sense of purpose and now sounds better than ever.

Just okAt first these sound really good, with loads of detail and pace. But that is about it. Listen to something like the Arcam and it is leagues away in terms of quality reproduction of the music. Probably fine as a PC replacement, but as a hifi falls short, being too shrill and thin.

extremely well balanced tone-no booming bass.I bought the cheap (£37)CYN DAB converter to send via an optic fibre cable out from my Panasonic TV -an analogue signal to my Musical Fidelity Amp/ Tanoy speakers. The very helpful Chelsea branch salesman at the time said that I might be back for a better converter. Whilst I loved the Cyn unit--one always quests for more. So back I go to discuss what was available. The bottom line is that there are converters at over a £1000!! Fourtunateley Richer sell the Cambridge Magic 100-at a far more sensible £165. the sound improvement is noticeably far better. super mid-range sound and no booming base. i would add that my Musical Fidelity amp--has no tone control-which I Iike--no mucking around on treble/ bass settings--just pure tone. The magic is just another super enhancement for modern day listening in this digital world.

I don't know how I lived without oneHaving decided to add streaming music to my old-but-posh hi-fi, I had to plan the best way to make use of existing equipment, sound files and possible acquisitions. I was recommended various ready-made and DIY solutions, none of which sounded ideal. I read about DACs, as my amp is purely analogue, and discovered the DacMagic 100, which will work with USB, optical and coax sources, and seemed great value for money. Too good to be true? No, it sounds great. I'm currently playing a mixture of FLAC, and MP3 through it, using ASIO on an old networked laptop running foobar2000, and it sounds way better than expected. I may upgrade to a dedicated player/ripper, and the DAC would handle it too. Why did I wait so long?
